2015 series is underway!

If the 2015 Lake Region Run is any indication, it looks like this is going to be a great year for racing! The series leaderboard is full of great performances all around from some new and returning competitors.

We've tweaked the scoring system this year to make for an ever better series, and have dropped the requirement that you participate in at least four races to appear in the series leaderboard. If you do four or less events, all of your performances will be used to calculate your point totals. If you do 5 or 6 events, we will take your top four scores to calculate your total and you will be awarded 25 bonus points for your fifth event and 50 points for your sixth. So it still pays to show up!

Housekeeping out of the way, let's take a look at the leaders after the first event. Fergus Falls' Paul Shol ran a good race and edged out Eric Januszewski (we had to copy and paste that name) from Alexandria to take the top male spot. Close on their heels is last year's champion, Dave Jensen, whose multi-sport talents make him a threat to anyone who gets in his way.

On the women's side, we have Samantha VanWechel, another notable Fergus Falls running standout, leading the pack. Sam is coming off a great Boston Marathon performance and has the miles under her belt to be a serious competitor in 2015. Right behind Sam is Abby Walker of Fargo, who, with her distance prowess, is sure to give anyone a run for their money.

Things will change quickly as the second race of the series, the Running Wild Trail Run is this Saturday, June 13. Will the current crop of leaders be able to withstand the twists, turns, and hills of Maplewood State Park or will a different set of mudders show that they have what it takes? Stay tuned!
