The 2015 edition of the Fergus Falls Area Race Series went out on a high note with picture-perfect weather at the Turkey Trot. This year's race drew record-setting numbers and showcased the many hills of Fergus Falls under clear blue skies.
With his second and third place challengers opting not to run today, series leader Nick Mariotti could have stayed in his deer stand this morning, but good guy that he is, he came in, decked out in flannel and boots, to run the 10k and cement his victory. Mariotti finished with a series record 708.15 points, completing all six of the series events and earning free entry to next year's races in the process.
Age group winners are Kellen Stenstrom (13 and under), Hans Frank-Holzner (14-19), Nathan Jensen (20-29), Mariotti (30-39), Larry Lasch (40-49), Ted Meyer (50-59), Larry Bethel (60-69), and Bill Bauck (70 and over).
Mary Ellen Tungseth ("Running Wild," as we like to call her) put on an equally impressive showing on the women's leaderboard, besting second place challenger Brenda Lindgren by 65 points, 515.01 to 450.24. The women's series was a fun one to watch as Tungseth, Lindgren, and Joellen Kohlman-Petrick all put up good attendance numbers and were challenged by Terry Lipp, Makenna Stenstrom and Ashley Joy Hoff. Lindgren and Kohlman-Petrick also took home "Raced all 6" honors.
Kohlman-Petrick also takes home the "No Excuses" award. As a follow-up to her strong showing at the CLC Du while 33 weeks pregnant, Kohlman-Petrick delivered a baby boy one week ago then came back to run the 5k today. Baby boy Petrick will surely enjoy accompanying mom at all the races next year.
