We're back, and not a moment too soon! With the Running Wild Trail Run less than 36 hours away, we thought it might be helpful to throw some numbers out there to prime the competition.
Last Saturday's Lake Region Run brought some new faces into the mix while also welcoming back old friends. Turnout was high and the competition was fierce as runners were treated to some light mist before the sun broke through and gave finishers a blue sky to return home under.
Making the drive from Thief River Falls worth it, Brendan Skime took top honors in the half marathon and jumped out to an early lead with 175 points. But close behind is a pair of local cross-country cycling legends, Paul Shol and David Jensen, with Long Prairie harrier Cameron Larson sandwiched in the middle. 2015 series champion Nick Mariotti racked up a respectable 132 points with an eye towards the long game that brought him success last time around.
Taking top honors for the women was another day-tripper, Amanda Deyounge from Worthington. She joins series regulars Joellen Kohlman-Petrick, Lynn Wolters, and 2015 champion Mary Ellen Tungseth at the top of the standings. Watch the ladies' 30-39 age group this year, as it is deep with talent and should make for an exciting season.
Start hydrating now for Saturday's Running Wild. Between the heat, humidity, and hills, if you don't lose 5 pounds of water weight by just looking at the course, you weren't really there.
