As attendees of yesterday's Summerfest parade know, the election for Otter Tail County sherriff is heating up, but as far as we are concerned, there's already a new sherriff in town and her name is Jaci Wilson. Not content with setting a half marathon course record at last week's Lake Region Run, Jaci knocked almost two-and-a-half minutes off of the Running Wild women's record, clocking in at a blistering 31:01. Needless to say, Jaci is doing just fine on top of the series standings, with a perfect 300 points after two races.
Not that she can rest on her achievements, for in close pursuit is Dawn Farichild and series veterans Joellen Kolhman-Petrick and Jess Knutson, who know a thing or two about scoring points and will undoubtedly keep the pressure on for the entire season.
Young guns dominate the men's side of the scoresheet, as perennial early favorite Cameron Larson and Hunter Halvorson, both fresh off of a successful track season, no doubt, vie for the top spot with perfect attendance so far. Not far behind is the duo of Jake Greenstein and Daniel Velasco, whose partnership in the #runalways Lake Region Run relay team has netted them first place finishes the past two years, and, with top ten performances in yesterday's race, show that they are formidable on their own as well.
There's no Viking Challenge this year, so we now settle in for a short break until the series starts back up in July with the Hoot Lake Triathlon. Tune up those bikes and dig out your swim caps!
